LONDON COLLECTIONS: MEN | JIMMY CHOO

Jimmy Choo transported us to Cuba for their Spring Summer 2014 presentation. The first sighting of the showcase, which was hidden away in Covent Garden, was a baby blue, vintage Cadillac parked outside the venue. Inside, the whole room had been converted into a Cuban side street with a bar serving Latin cocktails, a stall serving Mexican street food and the three stalls showcasing the Spring Summer 2014 accessories and shoes divided up by a collection of hand rolled cigars.

The collection was inspired by Solange's video for 'Losing You' which was played on loop on the television sculpture situated at the end of the room. Just like in the music video, the collection has a strong focus on classic styling but mixes it with a sunny, carefree vibe allowing it to be accessible to men of all ages. Divided up into three sections: 'Going to work', 'Working it' and 'Hanging Out' the collection offered everything from sturdy winter boots in asphalt, black, earth and cuoio to slip on loafers in cornflower blue, pistachio and cayenne. The collection had mass appeal and it was easy to imagine the shoes being worn by men in numerous cities across the globe, be it the Congolese Sapeurs in Brazzaville or the sharp suited business man in New York.

Jimmy Choo are broadening their horizons and have got us dreaming of endless summer in far off lands. The attention to detail within the collection has been executed to the highest standard with shoes being adorned with small silver coins hidden under layers of cutaway leather and the laces fastened in neat little bows. It is time to unleash the inner dandy in us all.
