MADRID | THE 24HR SUITCASE

Madrid is known for being the capital of Spain and for having a top football team but if you delve beneath the surface there is so much more to be discovered.

Walking along the winding streets lined with their hidden away bookshops, art galleries and not to mention some of the best bars in Europe, it is easy to forget you are in a big bustling city. With 43 degree heat at peak time during summer months and cobbled, uneven streets it is hard to know what to pack for a weekend getaway to this city.

Shorts are mandatory and if you own a pair of denim cut off Levi's you will definitely earn bonus points when walking through the hip neighbourhood of Malasana. Due to the old fashioned style street paving, heels are saved for the locals and even then they are kept to a minimum. Instead opt oft a wedge sandal or a chunky heel and during the day give your feet a break with a sandal fit for sightseeing.

Although situated miles away from the Spanish shoreline, Madrid's hotels often give non guests access to their rooftop swimming pools for a small fee so it is worth packing a swimming costume in case an invitation to la piscina arises.

Accessories are key to making an outfit come together and the vibe in Madrid is very relaxed and bohemian so opt for some glamorous friendship bracelets, bangles, a floppy hat and embroidered clutches. Of course no suitcase will be complete without a copy of Moda de la Mode magazine to read on the plane.

We hope this guide helps you decide what to bring to this fantastic city and don't forget to tweet us a photo of your time in Madrid.
