London Fashion Week SS13: Ones To Watch Show

The Ones to Watch show has proven to be one of the most popular shows held during the London Fashion Week period. Not only does it offer young, emerging designers a platform on which to show their collections, it also offers bloggers and editors alike a glimpse into the future of the fashion industry.

This year the Ones to Watch winners were made up of four talented and inspiring designers all from different backgrounds. Charlotte Simpson, Hana Cha, Hellen van Rees and Ming Pin Tien were selected to be this years winners based on their innovative designs, creative talent and of course ability to produce a strong, well thought through collection.

Charlotte Simpson draws inspiration from scientific imagery and uses this to create tactile and intriguing embroideries. What her designs lack in colour, they make up for in her use of embellishment and attention to detail giving her collection a more 'throw on' approach to couture.

Hana Cha was recently awarded the Womenswear Collection of the Year award from the London College of Fashion due to her creative use of colours and materials. Her current collection draws inspiration from social divides and the class difference between the proletariats and the Bourgeois.

Hellen van Rees has not only excelled as a emerging new designer, she is also challenging the world of sustainable fashion through the use of her handmade tweeds which make up her collection. Hellen's tweeds are all sustainably sourced and produced, complimenting her technical craftsmanship skills and the geometric aesthetic her current collection possesses.

The Taiwanese designer, Ming Pin Tien, experiments with a strong abstract concept for his collection and balances this with his forward thinking approach to pattern cutting, use of colour and texture. Looking at his collection you can see that his strength lies in his ability to create beauty in all aspects of his work.

Now in it's 13th season, Vauxhall Fashion Scout is still working it's magic and offering its much needed support to the plethora of emerging talent that is appearing on the fashion scene. Hopefully next season we will see a lot more from these designers and maybe even some of them will have their own show? We better wait and see...
