Semple Secrets with Louise Court, Editor of Cosmopolitan UK
Last Thursday, I was lucky enough to attend Maggie Semple Ltd's, Semple Secret event with Louise Court, Editor of Cosmopolitan Magazine. The event was held in the small and cosy MSL offices situated in an ancient mews house just off St Martins Lane. The house was just big enough for an audience of twenty people making the event very exclusive and intimate.
The idea behind the Semple Secret events is to invite an influential person from the fashion industry to talk about a treasured garment of theirs whilst also getting them to divulge the secrets of their career. Maggie Semple hosts the discussion and audience members are invited to bring along a special garment of theirs so that they too can join in the discussion and share their stories.
Following in the footsteps of many talented people such as Roland Klein, David Sassoon and Grayson Perry, Louise Court brought along a collection of garments that were special to her. A brown sequin Lanvin dress and a champagne coloured Vivienne Westwood top were the chosen outfits for the event along with a very glamorous pair of Chanel high heels. The Lanvin dress was worn to the Ultimate Woman of the Year Awards and reminds Louise of sitting next to Debbie Harry at the event. "This dress is one that lets you have a good time. It is really light and carefree" said Louise as she went on to describe her killer heels. "These shoes are from a Chanel sample sale and form a part of my rebellion against age."
There is no denying the fact that Louise is one of the most powerful women on the UK fashion scene. Her strength and determination is second to none and it is this that has allowed her to progress from working on a newspaper in Croydon to becoming the Editor of Cosmopolitan.
The evening was a truly amazing experience and it was the first Semple Secret event that I have attended. It was fabulous being in such an intimate environment, being able to have conversations with people within the industry that I have admired and looked up to since I wanted to become a fashion journalist myself. I cannot wait to attend their second Semple Secret event this Thursday with Masato Jones.
