After getting an iphone for my birthday, it is safe to say that I am already addicted to it. Not only does it look great but it has saved me so much time as everything is now in one place. As a fashion blogger, I knew of the benefits of having an iphone for a long time but it was not until I had my own that I truly discovered its merits. The range of apps available for the iphone is extensive, each claiming to make your life easier or more fashionable, so I decided to put them to the test to see which ones, as a fashion blogger, were really worth their weight in gold.
Instagram has to be one of the most famous photo sharing apps on itunes due to its easy to use features and beautiful filters that can be applied to any photo you take using this app. It is no surprise that bloggers have joined the Instagram craze with designers such as D&G using the app to report backstage from their menswear show in Milan earlier this year. One of the best perks is that you don't need to be a good photographer at all to use this app as the filters change an ordinary photo into a creative, artistic shot all with the click of a button. What is even better is that you can share your Instagram creation on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr etc...
Everyone who is anyone would have heard of Facebook at some point in their lives and I think it is safe to say that anyone with a blog is using Facebook to promote their site. That said, there is no point going into detail about how Facebook works but having it as an app on your iphone makes sharing posts, updating your page and communicating with fans a whole lot easier.
I believe Twitter is essential for any blogger who wants to develop and grow their readership. It acts as a micro-blogging platform where you can share your latest news, photos etc...without having to write a whole new post. I have found it tremendously useful since I joined in April 2011 and it has been through Twitter that I have discovered a plethora of new designers and even opportunities for me to develop as a blogger. It is an incredibly time consuming app if you wish to promote your blog well but because it is so simple to use, it is completely stress free and highly addictive. It is the one app I cannot live without!!
Where would bloggers be without the Blogger app?! Shock Horror!! I don't even want to think about it!! The blogger app is basically the website blogger.com on a diet. All this app does is allow you to view your blog, post new posts with videos, photos the lot and keep track of your previously published posts. This app is very useful to have if you are blogging on the go but it would be better if it gave you all the information from your dashboard.
With this app you can keep track of all your ideas and inspiration. You can take notes, save images, create to-do lists, view PDFs and more and it syncs your notes on your phone to your desktop so that you have them stored in more than one place. You can even take photos of your hand written notes, business cards, whiteboards or even food labels and all the text in these snapshots will be made searchable by Evernote. I can really recommend this app for anyone who likes to create order in their lives.
Bloglovin app makes it even easier to stay up to date with the latest blog posts from your favourite blogs. You can see a snapshot of the new post along with a photo from the blog and you get updated each time a blog writes something new. You can search for new and up and coming blogs in different fields as well as the top blogs in those fields all with a tap of the screen. It is a simplified version of the bloglovin website but I would recommend it to any blogger.
Trendstop app keeps you updated with the latest fashion trends, catwalk show looks, street style looks, fashion trend ideas and over 500 designers. It is an amazing app which brings all the fashion news straight to your phone, the photography is beautiful and the hand selected news items that they choose to feature are so interesting that you will be hooked on the app for hours at a time. Your diary will never look so full again. It is really good in providing you with some inspiration on what to write about.
Tumblr is another mirco-blogging platform which allows you to share text, photos and videos with your followers. It is feeding our love of beautiful images and this app makes it so much easier to update your tumblr page as it loads your news feed straight away and then gives you the option to RT an image along with posting your own original content. If you use Tumblr at all or have planned to use it in the future, then this app was made for you.
Style.com have an app...need I say more?! No, just download the app if you want the latest fashion news brought straight to your phone.
This website is a constant source of inspiration to me, not just fashion inspiration but it provides inspiration in the areas of food, home, lifestyle, pets etc...sometimes to really be inspired you need to step back from what you are looking for and open your eyes to what is around you. This app lets you create pinboards of your most inspiring images and you can share them with friends and family. A must have app.
Anyway, there is my list of my top 10 essential apps for fashion bloggers. I hope you enjoy it and find it useful and if you know of any I haven't mentioned then please do let me know.
